Health Concern (Rabies)
Rabies is a dangerous virus that can cause serious health issues in humans. The disease is transmitted into the human body through an animal bite. The usual carrier of this virus are dogs, bats, foxes, raccoons, etc. Also, some pets or domestic animals like cats, dogs, cows, horses, goats, and ferrets can cause this problem.
A few domestic and wild animals carry the rabies virus within their saliva. For a successful infestation, the animal saliva has to mix into the human bloodstream or inside the human body. It generally occurs upon having a bite from the animal. Though, it is also possible that the human might have an existing wound or exposure and the previously affected animal licks that open-wound.
Generally, rabies appears with a lot of problems. The primary complications are fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Later the patient goes through headaches, insomnia, hallucination, anxiety, fear, confusion, etc. The patient also experiences difficulty swallowing, superfluity of salivation, struggle in swallowing water, and hyperactivity.
Rabies is a fatal disease. It takes 3-10 days until the symptoms take place. Once occurred it is hard to save that patient from the ultimate fate. Though, there have been 20 reported incidents where patients got saved from the disease. So, one should see the doctor as soon as he/she experiences the symptoms.
When bit by an animal, one should wash the location with enough amount of soap and water. It is also important to capture that animal and present it to the doctor to see if that animal is certainly carrying the rabies virus or not.
The latter part of the treatment includes a series of injections for your immunity against rabies. The first one is put near the area of the body where you got bit. Later, you would get a series of vaccines over the next couple of weeks which would protect your body against fighting the virus.
One should keep a safe distance from wild animals. If you are having pets, you should vaccinate them on time. If you have wild animals, keep them in cages or confined. Moreover, keep yourself, your children, and your home safe from bats.
